About Us

KidsPeace, founded in 1882, is a private charity dedicated to serving the behavioral and mental health needs of children, families and communities. The organization was originally a home for children orphaned by a smallpox epidemic, but has grown over the years to meet the ever-changing needs of children and adolescents. KidsPeace offers services in Georgia, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Our continuum of care includes a psychiatric hospital; a comprehensive range of residential treatment programs; accredited educational services; and a variety of foster care and community-based treatment programs to help children and families in need transform their lives.

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?

Our foster parents tell us that KidsPeace Foster Care is better than other foster care programs because of the special attention our staff gives to every family. We take the time to help our foster parents determine the characteristics of kids that will fit best in their homes; we provide ongoing, child-specific training; and we are available 24/7 to offer support and guidance. Our foster parents tell us time and again that caring for KidsPeace children has enriched their own family lives.

TOGETHER FACING THE CHALLENGE

KidsPeace foster care was an early partner with Duke University in the research and development of the Together Facing the Challenge training and treatment curriculum. This evidence-based approach to providing care and treatment to youth in foster care provides practical direction for foster parents, empowering them to create therapeutic opportunities for growth that benefit the youth in their care.

Together Facing the Challenge helps us by ensuring:

  1. Supportive and involved relationships between caseworkers and foster parents;
  2. Effective use of behavior management strategies by foster parents and
  3. Supportive and involved relationships between foster parents and the youth in their care.
